Well, I graduated from Indiana University and wanted to put together a blog like this to not only help others obtain their fitness goals but to keep me on track to accomplish mine. While at IU I lived a somewhat unhealthy lifestyle and ended up gaining some weight and knew I needed to make a change quickly. I ended up following a program similar to the one that we will be outlining throughout this blog and lost around 50 lbs. (not bad). Through that experience I learned a lot about losing weight, what works and what does not. I probably spent hundreds on shakes and pills to try and accelerate the process. In the end it was this program that got the job done and nothing else. I can only hope that this blog will help others as I know it will continue to help me.

Awesome website!! Learned about your website through MensHealth.com an I have to say its much easier to find complete workouts here haha Maybe throw in some nutritional info soon? Since tearing my ACL playing college football ive had a tough time (post-recovery) of getting back to my playing strength/endurance so any tips would help!

    • MidwestFit says:

Hey Dillon, we actually have plans to get a nutritionist involved in the near future. They will be writing for us on a weekly basis to help with the subject and we are looking forward to the addition. We also have a running/endurance consultant who will begin writing for next week. His posts will be under “Miles with Myles” on the left side task bar. I think he will be able to assist you with injury recovery and getting you back to your peak endurance level. Thanks for viewing the site, and please…spread the word about MidwestFit!

  2. Luis says:

Hey, great site! I started working out at home seriously for 10 weeks now doing exercises like you have here and I know they work very well. I’ll be looking here for some more ideas.

Do you have any workouts using jumprope? I’ve found this to be a very effective warm up and cool down routine and also to interval train it’s excellent.

I also wanted to make a few suggestions: have you ever heard of gymboss? It’s a really cool timer that allows you to set rest and exercise times and it’s reasonably priced. The other is something called the ultimate sandbag which doesn’t sound like much, but after seeing some of these workouts, I think it could be a great addition to anyone who prefers working out at home or the park (like me).

Thanks a lot and I look forward to trying your workouts!

    • MidwestFit says:

Hey Luis thanks for checking out the site and we are glad you are liking our workouts so far! We actually have been looking into using a jumprope in more of our daily workouts because it is a great way to keep your heart rate elevated while using both your arms and your legs. We personally like doing double unders for part of our jump rope training.
Thanks for showing us some information on the gymboss and the ultimate sandbag. Those look like really great fitness tools that can be very beneficial to help reach all kinds of fitness goals. Thanks again for supporting MidwestFit.com

Cool site. Love the idea of mixing it up daily. I get bored with “8-week programs” you see on mags like M&F by the 3rd or 4th week. I’m in!

  4. Brent says:

I stubbled across this on today. I heard about it from a guy on Men’s Health. Is the Midwest program build muscle? By looking at the workout for today it looks like it is more geared towards being fit.

    • MidwestFit says:

Most of the workouts are designed to build muscle while at the same time trimming fat. This is accomplished with increased intensity in our workouts and such things as “interval training”. You can, and will, most definitely build muscle from such a routine.

      • Brent says:

Would this be something for me to try? I am trying to gain weight as well as muscle.

      • MidwestFit says:

Well Brent, for starters, muscle weighs more than fat. So by following a program similar to ours, you will essentially be cutting fat while building muscle. I do not know your current situation but assuming you are thin, you could very well gain weight by adding muscle through our workouts. You can e-mail us at midwestfit@gmail.com if you would like to explain your situation further and allow us to tailor a response for you. Thanks for checking out the site!

    Great site!
Getting some great ideas to mix up daily workouts. Gotta keep this 60 year-old body conditioned…

    • MidwestFit says:

Thanks for the feedback and for checking out MidwestFit Rob! We really focus on mixing up the workouts to not only condition the body more efficiently, but also to keep us all from hitting the dreaded boredom phase or plateau phase that comes with most workout routines. We have developed some great ideas to avoid that though, so please keep checking in!

  6. John says:

Great posts–much easier to follow than MH. Love the total body workouts and just the change up on a daily basis. Only thing I would change is figure out a way to make it easy to print out the day’s workout. Now I cut and paste and print-which is fine. Still better than those MH apps etc.

    • MidwestFit says:

Thank you John. We appreciate it. And thanks for checking out MidwestFit. We are currently exploring ways to make it easier for people to print workouts or get them on their phone. So hopefully we can figure something out soon. Thanks again.

  7. Paul says:

I’ve been enjoying the website and the daily circuit emails. What are your thoughts on suppliments (creatine, protein)? I’ve tried different combinations but I haven’t seemed to find the right one.

    • MidwestFit says:

Hi Paul, thanks for checking out MIdwestFit! If you would like some more info on our thoughts about creatine and protein supplements, feel free to e-mail us at Midwestfit@gmail.com If you could give us a more specific question or background info about how you have tried them in the past it would be helpful!

  8. Josh says:

This site is rad! I’ve used the routines daily for a month and have great results. Thank you. I look forward to more information on endurance training as well as healthy supplements and nutrition.

    • MidwestFit says:

  9. Nik says:

This is so cool! Seeing things daily will be a lot more motivational then trying to come up with something myself. I just got a clean bill of health after breaking my ankle a few months ago, so I’ve never been more excited to exercise. Thanks for all that you do!

    • MidwestFit says:

First of all, thanks for checking out MidwestFit! We are glad to hear you have been cleared back to exercise, and we hope you enjoy the workouts! Don’t go too hard to start though, ease your ankle back into exercise before you go full throttle! Good luck and if you ever have any questions or comments, feel free to email us at midwestfit@gmail.com

  10. David Roberts says:

Hello there. My name is David and am 32 years old. I’ve kind of let my body go for the past decade (with work, kids ect..) and now tipping the scale at around 235lbs. I came across your site from menshealth and can’t wait to get started. You’ve got some pretty easy to follow workouts it seems. Thank you and I’ll keep ya updated

    • MidwestFit says:

  11. Scott says:

Hey Guys: Have you tried the Rebel Race 15k mud run!!! Its out of this world!

  12. Chad says:

Love this. Just found it while late night researching a new curriculum I am about to start on. As an endurance trainer myself, it’s great to see you guys are putting the word out there that true fitness is achievable, but its more than just 10 mins a day on the latest fad product on TV, or just peddling going nowhere on a stationary bike. The fitness lifestyle is fun and exciting, espcially if you are just starting out with a huge goal. To lose a lot of weight (even just 25 pounds) is a bigger accomplishment than most people will see in a lifetime! It can’t be pulled off by taking the easy road. Just hoping none of my clients find this site. Great info for the general public.

    • MidwestFit says:

Hey Chad, thanks for checking out MidwestFit! We appreciate the feedback and completely agree. Ultimately, success in reaching health goals is not done thorough some magic pill or 5 minute abs workout, it comes from a dedicated lifestyle change that includes both fitness and nutrition. We just hope people can benefit with both from using MidwestFit as a tool to achieve their health, fitness, and wellness goals!

  13. Marc says:

Hey guys, I’m 34 I’m 6’5 and I weight about 271, my Ideal weight to be is 230. I just started working out again. I usually get in a groove and flow hard at the gym. But I had someone working out with me at that time. Now I’m by myself. I remember being 280 and losing 40 lbs. it felt great. But again I was with others working out. Now I don’t have a partner and I really don’t have a routine set up for me to follow. My weak areas are as follows: I can’t do pull ups, I can squat but not my body weight. I would like to be stronger and lose the giggly giggly all over. I need to tighten up my skin and lose my belly. I don’t need ABS. I think it’s over rated. But I would like a strong looking mid section. I want some crazy triceps. I know they make up most of a persons arm, so why not have them huge?? Lol A friend of mine used to say the “V shape” is vital no matter what, and you have to do legs, because legs are everything. I would like to accomplish all this and more. But I don’t have any set routines, meaning I don’t know what to do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc. I know a person should never work out the same thing everyday. . Can you help me?

    • MidwestFit says:

      Hi Marc!

We can definitely help. When you get a chance comment back to us listing your email address and that way we’ll be able to communicate easier than commenting back and forth on the page. We look forward to hearing from you and getting you a solid workout plan. Thanks for checking out MidwestFit and we hope to get your email to hit you back with some info here soon!
